The ball is in the U.S. Senate’s court after the House this week approved a continuing spending resolution to keep the government funded and open through September.

Congressman Tim Walberg tells us he gladly voted for the spending deal, but the Democrats have to decide if they want a government shutdown.

Since there wasn’t a willingness to negotiate by the Democrats, unless we took away some of the powers of the president, specifically with DOGE and the cutting of certain parts of state, they weren’t willing to negotiate,” Walberg said. “And that’s just a non-negotiable. You were not going to negotiate away the powers of the president to carry out what 77 million people asked him to do.”

Senate Democrats were sending mixed messages this week about whether or not they’d approve the deal, with Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer saying Republicans didn’t have the votes to pass it on their own.

The deadline for the Senate to approve the deal is Friday night.
