Governor Gretchen Whitmer announced this week more than 300 locations across the state now have free contraception resources available through the Take Control of Your Birth Control program.
The governor’s office says the resources include birth control pills, emergency contraception, condoms, and family planning educational materials.
Washtenaw County Health Department prevention specialist Adrienne Walling says there are now many ways to get contraception.
“We have services that if someone were interested in birth control, they can meet our nurse practitioner and be prescribed that,” Walling said. “But this is a really unique opportunity because they are over-the-counter prescriptions that anyone can get without having to discuss with a provider.”
Among the locations where the services are available are the Berrien County Health Department offices in Benton Harbor and Niles, the Michigan Department of Health and Human Services office in Benton Harbor, Caring Connections in Benton Harbor, the Domestic Violence Coalition in Paw Paw, and Intercare in Benton Harbor, Bangor, and Dowagiac.
