Fifth District Republican Congressman Tim Walberg is thanking voters for sending him back to the U.S. House for another term following this week’s elections.

Walberg easily won Tuesday and tells us he plans to represent all residents of the district, whether they voted for him or not.

It’s always a thrill to recognize the fact that people have a choice of candidates, sometimes more than just one or two, but when they choose you, it’s pretty special,” Walberg said.

Walberg says that just makes him realize he has a big job that people expect him to do. He believes inflation is what drove the country to elect Republicans this week.

I think it was our message, our message about the principles that work, reminding people that we definitely weren’t as good now as we were four years ago. People readily accepted that. They just had to look at their gas purchases for their car or the grocery store purchases to realize that they were less well off these past four years than they were the prior four.”

Other big issues are the southern border and government overreach in the form of mandates.

You know, telling us what type of car we’re going to drive, what type of stove we could have. All of that, I think, concerned people enough to say, ‘No, that’s not what I want for my government. Stay out of my life that way. Let me make my own choices.’ And the Republicans spoke clearly to that.”

Walberg says Republicans may be in charge come January, but there will still be tight margins in Congress. He expects the Senate to be especially contentious.

As for whether anyone should fear incoming President Donald Trump, Walberg says, “He is just the president” and that “no member of Congress serves him.”
