SHOUT for South Haven has raised more than $21,000 in less than two weeks for an outdoor fireplace it’s planning at Dyckman Park. The group’s Tom Renner tells WSJM News they have to raise $40,000 to match the $40,000 challenge Public Spaces – Community Places Grant pledged by the Michigan Economic Development Corporation for the fireplace. He says the community has come out in support of the project.

“We’re just overwhelmed with the enthusiasm and the contributions to date for this project,” Renner said. “It’s mostly been through fundraising with the members of the SHOUT organization. We received a challenge grant form the Michigan Economic Development Corporation for $40,000, but it requires us to match that.”

Renner says SHOUT is seeking to install a fireplace at Dyckman Park similar to one found in downtown Holland. With many winter activities taking place at that park, he says the fireplace would be a good gathering point. SHOUT for South Haven invites anyone to make a contribution at ShoutForSouthHaven.org. Its deadline to raise the $40,000 is December 2.
