A Van Buren County educator known for innovative leadership and dedication to the students has been honored with an Excellence in Education award from the Michigan Lottery.
Matt McLouth is a principal with Decatur Public Schools and was nominated for the award by the district’s superintendent.
Decatur Public Schools Superintendent Patrick Creagan says McLouth “stands as a beacon of excellence in the realm of education, exemplifying unwavering commitment, innovative leadership, and an unparalleled dedication to the students and community of Decatur Jr. Sr. High School.” He says he’s increased student engagement, improved academic performance, and developed a positive school culture.
The Michigan Lottery established the Excellence in Education awards in 2014 to recognize outstanding public-school educators across the state during the school year.
Winners of the weekly award receive a $2,000 cash prize, and at the end of the school year, one of the award winners will be selected to receive the Lottery’s Educator of the Year award and a $10,000 cash prize.
